As a small business, modulR focuses on a couple key areas (posting on blogs not being one of them). Where other case manufacturers churn out bulky cases or cramped keyboards, modulR designs around the mobile capabilities of the iPad and business. We work closely with both our customers and potential customers to understand the best way to integrate the iPad into one’s workflow whether though our line of mobility solutions or a fully customized solution.

For the past six months we have been working with a range of businesses and iPad users to create a line of mobility solutions specifically geared toward the iPad mini.

As they say here in Louisville, we are rounding turn four and heading into the home stretch. You can sign up to be notified here for our official iPad mini line announcement or send me a line directly and let me know what your needs are for business.

Sincerely,

Josh Beatty, founder

At CES this year there will be a ton of stuff and yet again everyone will still be talking about the elephant not in the room.

Look for Apple this year to be less concerned about changing the look of the devices (outside of the iPad) and more focused on what we do with those devices.

Our prediction is that the major announcement, the new Apple TV, will include only slight hardware refinements and be more about interface design and device engagement. Through new capabilities like Airplay Direct, Smart Content and an integrated camera, Apple TV will be able recognize individuals and communicate with ‘iDevices’ directly, enabling new experiences at home, in store and at work.

Here is our take on the major trends and predictions for Apple over the coming year.

With the popularity of iPads and other tablets, savvy meeting planners are ditching heavy binders in favor of efficient electronic devices. For two meeting planners, switching to electronic specs has improved efficiency and dramatically improved onsite response time.

Paul Henning, President of Annapolis-based Conference & Logistics Consultants, switched to an iPad in January with much success. “Having all the meeting specs, vendor contacts and schedules, diagrams, contracts, and BEOs at our fingertips has definitely transformed our ability to manage meetings onsite,” said Henning. “Since we manage all our meeting details in a database, carrying that database around allows us to answer questions and resolve any issues on the spot. No more notebooks means never having to run back to the office to look something up.”

Cathy Chenevey, CMP, Senior Manager, Conferences and Special Events, AIAA, also made the leap to an iPad so that she would have the information she needed at her fingertips. “We’d take all the big binders on-site – but you could only carry so much with you at any given time, and it seemed like what you needed was always in the office. With the iPad, I can make changes and send the information right while I’m talking with the person.”

Both Chenevey and Henning make use of iPad apps and PDF readers to handle volumes of meeting information. C&LC’s database is built on the Filemaker platform, so FileMaker Go for iPad is Henning’s primary onsite tool. His team also uses Catch Notes to make notes on the go and GoodReader to view and annotate PDF copies of BEOs and diagrams. Chenevey has discovered that PDF Reader Pro meets all her needs. “Since I was used to manipulating things in Acrobat, it was an easy transition.” She also uses Quick Office Pro for Word and Excel documents, and is looking at iAnnotate for possible future use.

Because meeting managers always have something in their hands, Henning ordered hands-free iPad shoulder straps from modulR. “I saw them on the Today show and figured if Al Roker can rock the iPad strap, so can we.” The innovative strap design allows
Henning’s team to carry the iPad at all times, without the fear of dropping it, leaving two free hands to carry signs or other equipment without ever having to set down meeting materials. “At every meeting, at least one of our vendor partners tells me they are ordering one.”

To others considering trading your gigantic binder for an iPad, Chenevey encourages: “Just do it! It is great to be able to pull up a floor plan, mark changes on it, and send it immediately to the facility, AV, decorator, etc. There is so much out there that can be done with the iPad that I think we’ve only just started to scratch the surface.”

DISPOSABLE WIPES THAT ELIMINATE GERMS ON DEVICES FOR OVER 2 WEEKS

Advanced Antimicrobial Protection For Phones, Tablets, Keyboards and Other Devices

modulR, the leader in mobile iPad solutions, today introduced ionSwipes, a new weapon in the fight to stop the spread of germs. ionSwipes long-term antimicrobial wipes eliminate 99.9% of germs, viruses and bacteria on your devices for over 2 weeks.

“We live in a touch screen world, and those screens are highly effective at transmitting germs,” said Josh Beatty, founder of modulR. “In fact, cold and flu viruses can survive for up to 18 hours on our devices. Think about how many times you handle your phone throughout the day. ionSwipes offer the most advanced germ defense for all your devices – perfect for offices, schools, hospitals, and anywhere else screens are shared.”

With flu season on the way, the transmission of germs poses a potential public health hazard. Seventy-two percent of people admit to working sick and spreading germs, and it is the surfaces we touch that are the major causes for transmission.

Other screen cleaning products may disinfect, but only ionSwipes eliminates germs and prevents them from coming back. The core technology of ionSwipes is based on decades of university research, development and experience. Harnessing silver, copper and zinc ions at the nano-scale, ionSwipes is able to provide broad-based infection control that is completely safe, natural and long lasting.

To help spread the word about spreading germs, ionSwipes has started a campaign for clean screens everywhere at RememberToWipe.com. The site includes “viral” videos and educational infographics through a partnership with Keeping It Kleen – a health education resource.

“It’s a common notion that when we go on vacation we want to “get away from it all.” But take a closer look and you may find that what you really want to do is get away from it all with the technology you love. But what gear should you haul along with you? That depends a great deal on how you’re getting from here to there, whether this is a working vacation, where you’re going, and who you’re visiting along the way.”

By working closely with businesses and customers over the past two years we have created what we think is the smartest, toughest, most comfortable and most versatile iPad case around. In addition, we have designed a fully adjustable, rotating and locking display mount that gives your iPad a level of versatility and function that you can’t find anywhere else.

We are launching our new products through Kickstarter, tapping into their high-energy base. We hope that combined with our great customer and business base, the Kickstarter community will help us continue to design more products and help expand your modulR mobile iPad experience even further.

In the fall of 2008, I was walking through a tech trade show and it seemed like every company I saw had their own high-end touchscreen system – all very expensive and each limited to a single purpose like home entertainment, employee data entry or information kiosk.

Apple’s App store had only recently been launched, but I could clearly imagine the future demise of these one-trick touch screens and the rise of a single screen that could do 10,000 things – it was only a matter of time.

Fast forward one year later when I was working for Mike at mindsalt – a small design group in Louisville, Kentucky and Apple’s much-rumored tablet was on all our minds. One night after work we were speculating about what the new tablet might be like and what it could mean to the world.

We knew it was probably going to have the potential to redefine the way we work, play and interact with the world around us, but we also thought it may be limited in it’s ability to deliver a complete mobile experience. As beautifully crafted as it was – by itself, the iPad suffered from a lack of practical mobility, little comfort and limited usefulness specific to environment or purpose.

Defining practical uses, identifying inherent limitations and designing products to improve the iPad’s usefulness and mobility became the impetus for us to start modulR mobile iPad solutions over 2 years ago.

After more than 2 years in development, 112 product concepts, 78 prototypes, 2914 cups of coffee, 412 sleepless nights, 9 prior successful product releases and vast work with customers and businesses, we’re ready to get our latest and greatest products to market.

Thank you to all our customers that have helped and encouraged us to develop the best and most complete iPad solution on the market.

Cheers,
